The Light

With winter upon us, what excitement we get when an occasional warm day pops up! Allowing us to hit the course. But with the days so short, we might find ourselves pushing the daylight in order to finish our round.

Imagine the cool winter’s night tapping on your shoulder as you stand over your putt. You are squinting to see. Begging your eyes to adjust to the waning daylight so you can just finish this hole and round with satisfaction. But alas, to no surprise, the ball rolls passed the cup because it was too dark for you to see the read of the putt’s break properly.

You needed more light.

Light is how we see the world, amidst the darkness.

Advent is a time to celebrate, with awe, the Light that is Jesus Christ. To reflect on His first coming, at his birth. And rejoice at the inevitability of his second coming.

The word Advent means "arrival" or "an appearing or coming into place."

During Advent we count down the days in anticipation of Christ’s birth. Advent is a season of anticipation.

This not only reminds us of the joy of Jesus coming to us in the manger. It can also teach us to wait with anticipation for his second coming, when Jesus will return and bring heaven to earth. No more suffering. No more heartbreak. Just light, joy, love and perfection beyond our imagination.

Jesus tells us to prepare for that day.

“Therefore be ready, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.” -Matthew 24:42

What are ways you wait with anticipation or celebrate leading up to Christmas?

What are ways you prepare for Christmas and its celebrations?

What ways can you prepare for the coming of the Jesus?

As you see the lights decorating the Christmas tree or the houses around your community, let it fill your heart with joy. Think of it as a reminder of the True light of christmas.

Let that spark joy in your heart as you think of how glorious it will be when Christ returns.
